penn state

penn state is my alma mater. i grew up in pennsylvania and was absolutely thrilled to be accepted into the university park campus--the main campus. i attended for 4 1/2 years--mainly because i did not want to leave. on top of it, i met j there and we were married there 4 years later. j is by far the biggest psu fan i know and possibly in the united states.

joe paterno, our school's football coach, spoke in the lehigh valley this week.

joe is an inescapable legend in pennsylvania--even if you don't like penn state and all that it stands for--there is something about joe that invokes a sense of family and inclusiveness that i have found in very few places since my college years. he puts on a great show--speaking and on the football field. he is a little old italian man who cracks jokes and has as many stories to tell as any grandfather.

oh yeah, and that's me in the background. my shirt is actually pretty cool, but it looks like it's choking me!
